Vanilla Buttermilk Cake Batter

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups regular all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract


  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter or margarine until creamy.
  2. Gradually add sugar, beating until mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Sift together flour and soda.
  5. Beat into creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixed with vanilla, almond extract.
  6. Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube cake pan.
  7. Bake in a 180c degree oven for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pan 5 minutes; turn out onto wire rack.
