  • 800g silverside beef roast
  • 1 large onion, peeled and quartered
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and halved
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 2 Tsp bisto (Or beef stock and corn flour)
  • Boiling water

Roast Beef

  1. Pre-heat oven to 180' c
  2. Place the beef, potato and onion in the roasting pan
  3. Cover with the oil
  4. From time to time remove the roast from the oven and baste with its own juices
  5. Remove the roast from the oven when done to your liking
  6. Place the roast on a plate and cover loosely with tin foil
  7. If necessary, continue to cook the potatoes until done

Note: To see if the beef is cooked to the desired level, insert a thin skewer into the thickest part of the joint and press out some juices: the red, pink or clear colour will indicate how much the beef has cooked.

  1. Pour juices from roasting pan into a small pyrex jug
  2. Add 2 Tsp of Bisto
  3. Add boiling water until desired gravy thickness is reached
  4. Microwave on high until boiling
  5. Add more water of bisto if required
